Hello! Today has been a wonderful, very very cold, in a baking mood type of day.
As I stated before on the blog (yesterday to be exact) I had tried to make bread....but unlike yesterday, I have SUCCESS! (happy dancce!)
Anyways I found this recipe on allrecipe. It is for an amish white bread and it is pretty awesome I have to say.
Amish White Bread
Ingredients
2 cups warm water (about 110 degrees Fahrenheit)
2/3 C white sugar
1 1/2 Tablespoons active dry yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
6 cups of bread flour (I used all purpose, it might have turned out even better if I had used bread flour)
Directions
1) In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, and then stir in yeast. Allow to proof until yeast resembles a creamy foam
I forgot to take a picture of it after it got all foamy...I apologize
2) Mix salt and oil into the yeast.
Mix in flour one cup at a time. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface
until smooth. Place in a well oiled bowl, and turn dough to coat. Cover
with a damp cloth. Allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
Mine took just a little over an hour to rise. So if it goes over by about 10 or 20 minutes don't panic.
3) Punch dough down. Knead it just a little more, and divide in half. Shape into loaves, and place into two well
oiled 9x5 inch loaf pans. Let it rise for 30 minutes, or until dough
has risen 1 inch above pans.
As you can see mine never really made it up and over the pan, my problem is that i added too much sugar (I added 3/4 cup sugar instead of 2/3 C like it said...because I am blind or I can't read...I'll let you decide which!)
4) Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.
On another, more romantic, total "Awwwwww" Moment of the day award goes to my beloved, David. While me and my sister (Ally) were having a girls afternoon of chick flicks and cartoons, David went and got us all an Ice Cream cake (my total favorite type of cake).
You can't see it that well because sometimes I take really blurry pics because of my hands, but it says " Rachel is Cute!"....isn't he the best?
